On Saturday, February 15th, the ScoutConnect staff will host the ScoutConnect Winter Showcase, an event open to all 2025-to-2028 grads that will take place at the SportsBarn East in Wood River, IL.
This event will provide players an opportunity to gather updated measurables after nearly completing their off-season while also serving as another avenue for them to gain exposure in front of our staff. For all of the event details – what we offer, cost, registration, etc. – click HERE.
While we still have a few months to go until the event kicks off, our staff is taking the time to highlight some of the names already set to make their way to the SportsBarn on February 15th. We’ll continue to do so as the winter rolls on, but for now, continue reading below to learn more about a few names-to-know ahead of our event.
EARLY ROSTER PREVIEW
+ Making the trip down from the northern peninsula of Missouri is RHP Gage Brownell (Schuyler Co, 2026), a powerful, ultra-physical athlete that should come away as one of the event’s top prospects, regardless of class. Brownell, who’s also an All-Conference basketball player, stands at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds with present strength, though he’ll easily add more. We saw him up to 90 mph at our Fall Classic event in late September, pitching in the mid-to-upper-80s, and showing a slider that was up to 80 mph, though mostly sat in the mid-70s.
Lot to like in RHP Gage Brownell (Schuyler Co, 2026).

All sorts of physical upside, arm works.

+ C Maxx Grieme (Taylorville, 2026) is one of the top uncommitted catchers in the current Illinois junior class. Grieme is a name we’ve become plenty familiar with over the past few months, and he was one of the biggest winners from our Fall College Camp. His writeup from that event, found below.
From 9/25/24: Amongst all players in attendance, Grieme came away as a must-follow uncommitted junior catcher in Illinois. A strong-bodied backstop, Grieme took a highly impressive round of BP, working gap-to-gap from a loud, intentful right-handed stroke. Grieme’s firmest ball came off his bat at 94 mph, and his deepest barrel traveled 340.6 feet; additionally, Grieme got off one of the loudest in-game swings of the night, squaring one up deep to right-center field for a flyout. His biggest asset may be his arm, however, reaching 80 mph on his hardest throw down to the bag with a quick-trigger to release. Expect Grieme to be a popular name on the circuit from now until his eventual college commitment, and he should firmly be on the collegiate radar.
+ 1B Noah Convery (Carlinville, 2026) doesn’t lack any physicality, standing at 6-foot-2, 220-pounds with middle-of-the-order upside from the left side of the plate. Expect the strength-packed slugger to put together one of the event’s louder rounds of BP, and he’s a name that college coaches should begin to follow throughout his junior year.

+ ‘26 Noah Convery (Carlinville) is a physical LHH with middle-of-the-order bat strength.
+ He’ll be at the #SCWinterShowcase on Feb. 15th; event info, here. ⬇️

+ Another follow from the Fall College Camp, OF Chase Butler (Civic Memorial, 2026) is another name to watch for at February’s event.
From 9/25/24: Butler is a physical, strength-packed right-handed hitter with impact potential. Butler has strong hands and easy jump off the barrel with balance, polish, and feel to hit as well. His hardest batted ball came off his bat at 95 mph and traveled 343.3 feet, both of which were amongst the day’s loudest marks. Additionally, Butler was on the barrel twice in game, including a loud double deep to left-center
+ Look for C Beau Breyman (Freeburg, 2027) to keep climbing throughout the course of next season as one of the top sophomore backstops in the area, and he’s another name we’re looking forward to seeing up-close in February.
From 11/21/24: One on-the-rise sophomore to know from this area, Breyman’s poised for a big spring for Freeburg’s program. Breyman was a winner on the fall circuit on both sides of the ball, finding the barrel often at the plate from a strong, compact right-handed swing. His biggest asset may ultimately be behind the plate, where he profiles as an asset at the next level. Breyman’s arm, in particular, stood out in our looks, and his ability to control the run game is advanced. Look for the 5-foot-10, 180-pound backstop to continue to make a name for himself this upcoming season and beyond.
C Beau Breyman (Freeburg, 2027; @GatewayBruins) is fitting in nicely with the older group this morning.

+ One name that we’ve heard nothing but positives on in the area is OF/LHP Carter Braddy (Effingham, 2027), and we’re eager to get our first live look at the Effingham product this winter.
From 11/21/24: Effingham has produced several quality players over the past few years, and Braddy figures to be next in line. An easy, athletic mover on the mound with a clean arm, Braddy’s been up to 84 mph, pitching in the low-80s, and it’s clear he’ll only continue to tick up. Braddy also swings an athletic left-handed barrel that stays through the hitting zone on a level plane and allows him to work gap-to-gap with consistency.
+ RHP Liam Scaiefe (Freeburg, 2027) is a strong, physical 6-foot-4, 190-pound arm that’s been up to 84 mph from a simple, low-effort operation. Scaiefe made a name for himself at Freeburg this spring, failing to allow an earned run over 19 ⅔ innings with 22 punchouts as a freshman.
+ Turning to the current freshman class, C/RHP Anderson Kaufmann (Alton) figures to be one of the top names in the area throughout his high school career. Kaufmann’s talents extend to both sides of the ball, where he has a chance to be an impact-type from the jump for Alton this spring. He swings a strong, uphill right-handed swing engineered to drive the baseball gap-to-gap, and his arm really plays from the chute with a quick, accurate trigger. On the mound, Kaufmann’s fastball plays in the low-80s and he’s also able to consistently land a breaking ball with depth for strikes.
+ Another 2028 grad to know is RHP/INF Haiden Lange (Carterville), who resides in the southeast pocket of the state. Lange is a plenty projectable 6-foot-3, 180-pound athlete that’s previously shown a low-80s fastball with tight spin on a low-70s breaking ball, too. He also swings an athletic right-handed barrel that saw success on the summer circuit last spring and adds more upside to his all-around game.
