We’re back with another update to our Missouri high school baseball rankings following another week of the MSHSAA season.
For a look at our rankings a week ago, click HERE.
It’s important to note that these rankings do not cover the entire state. Our coverage map from a rankings standpoint, in Missouri, includes mostly the city of St. Louis, extending downward to Jackson, Missouri. That doesn’t mean we’re not covering other areas of the state, but from a consistency standpoint, we will only rank teams that fall inside our coverage area. It’s also important to note that these are just initial rankings, and they will fluctuate throughout as the season rolls on and game play starts.
There’s plenty of movement in this update, especially at the top, and trickling down throughout our board. We have a few risers, a few notable fallers, and a handful of teams that are on the outside looking in. For more details and information on our top-15, continue reading below.
THE TOP FIVE…
+ No. 1 Jackson (13-1) holds on to their top spot after an undefeated week in which they outscored their opponents 39-to-3. The Indians, who have not lost to a team in Missouri yet this year, look every bit the part of a true state champion contender.
+ We do have two teams rising up, as SLUH (12-2) and Francis Howell (9-4) are up to No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, in this update. The Jr. Billikens have been one of the hottest teams in the area for the past few weeks, continuing to beat whichever opponent stands in their way. They swept a conference series with CBC (6-5, 14-4) before sweeping through the Jesuit Classic, defeating Saint Peters (6-2), Rockhurst (4-2), and Creighton Prep (8-2). Francis Howell climbs up two spots in this update after sweeping their GAC series with rival Fort Zumwalt West (2-1, 5-0).
+ Rounding out our top five are No. 4 Eureka (11-3) and No. 5 Fort Zumwalt West (10-5-1), each of whom are falling in this update. The Wildcats are down one spot, which is really a result of SLUH climbing to No. 2, after a 3-1 week. They split their conference series with Lafayette (2-1 W, 5-4 L), with wins over Ladue (11-0) and Parkway South (8-3) as well. The Jaguars fell three spots to fifth after dropping both of their conference games to Francis Howell (2-1, 5-0). They rebounded nicely to end the week with two wins, sweeping a Saturday double-header over Webster Groves (6-1, 8-6).
ON THE RISE…
+ This week’s biggest riser is Marquette (11-2), as the Mustangs climb up four spots from outside the top-10 and now sit at No. 7 on our board. Marquette split their conference series with Rockwood Summit (6-1 W, 7-2 L), while also picking up wins over Northwest Cedar Hill (4-1) and Lebanon (12-2). This offense is capable of keeping up with anyone on any given day, and they pair that with several quality arms on their pitching staff.
+ Seckman (11-5) is back on the rise as well, bumping up two spots, now at No. 13. The Jaguars went undefeated this week, opening things up with a 4-3 win over Lindbergh, before taking down Cape Central (2-0), Hazelwood West (19-0), and Parkway West (4-0). Their pitching staff continues to give them a chance to win games, led by Cory Hilzinger (2028), Carson Hardin (2027), and Max Jones (2027).
+ No. 13 Festus (7-3) and No. 14 Francis Howell Central (8-5) are both bumping up one spot. The Tigers won both of their games this week, sweeping Perryville (17-0, 7-1) in a conference series, while the Spartans swept their conference set over Troy Buchanan (3-1, 11-0) and added a win over North Point (8-5) as well.
STAYING PUT…
+ No. 6 Vianney (13-2) and No. 8 Oakville (9-4) are both staying put in spots from last week’s rankings update. The Griffins won all five of their games, sweeping a quality Chaminade (7-0, 4-1) club in conference, while also adding wins over St. Patrick (10-0), Lutheran South (3-1), and Father Tolton (6-1). Oakville went 2-1 on the week, beating Mehlville (5-1) and Fox (6-5), while dropping a 3-1 game to Kirkwood.
+ Rockwood Summit (9-5) is also staying put, rounding out our top-10. The Falcons went 2-2 this past week, splitting their conference series with Marquette (7-2 W, 6-1 L). They beat Westminster Christian (11-1) on Friday night and lost to Webster Groves (4-3).
DROPPING DOWN…
+ Lafayette (10-5) and St. Dominic (9-7) are the biggest fallers in this update. The Lancers are down two spots, now sitting at No. 9, after a 3-3 week. They did split their conference series with Eureka (5-4 W, 2-1 L), which is no small task, and it’s the reason why they’re not dropping further down our board. As far as the rest of their week. Lafayette took two games over DeSmet (11-6, 6-1), with losses to Parkway Central (6-2) and Chaminade (5-3). As for St. Dominic, the Crusaders are out of our top-10, falling three spots to No. 12 after a 1-4 week. They beat Westminster Christian 2-1, but lost games to Kirkwood (6-2), St. Ignatius (6-1), Creighton Prep (10-0), and St. Peters (6-3).
+ Fort Zumwalt East (9-3) hangs onto the final spot in our rankings, dropping three spots to No. 15. The Lions salvaged their week after dropping both of their conference games to Fort Zumwalt North (3-2, 5-0) with wins over Clayton (9-3), Wright City (4-0), and Warrenton (12-2).
NEXT UP…
+ Duchesne (11-3): Seven straight wins for the Pioneers, who had a strong week, beating three quality ‘Small School’ clubs in Valle Catholic (6-2), Lutheran St. Charles (16-4), and St. Michael the Archangel (7-1, 6-4). Duchesne was the first team out of our rankings, and we’re expecting to see them jump in at some point.
+ Kirkwood (8-5): A young, talented group, the Pioneers have a handful of quality wins on their resume, and they added two more this past week beating St. Dominic (6-2) and Oakville (3-1). Consistency is the key for this group, but Kirkwood will not be a tough out as the season rolls on and they continue to gain more experience at the varsity level.
+ Lindbergh (6-7-1): Despite their record, don’t forget about Lindbergh on a week to week basis. This Flyers’ group is plenty talented and they’re capable of competing with anyone on any given day. They went 3-1 on the week, losing a 4-3 game to Seckman, before sweeping through Parkway West (12-1, 13-10) and beating Mehlville (13-4).
+ Chaminade (10-6): One of the biggest surprises of the season, Chaminade has made it known they’ll be a tough task for any team to handle. They played Vianney tough this week despite dropping both of those games, but bounced back nicely, beating a ranked Lafayette team 5-3.
