With the IHSA season underway, the ScoutConnect scouting staff will be out and about in full force throughout the spring, providing quality coverage to high school athletes on a game-to-game basis. Aside from the social media aspect of our scouting, we’ll release our ‘Scout Notes’ the day after each game, which will provide a more detailed analysis of some players that stood out to our staff on that given day.
Continue reading below to learn more about a few names that impressed on Saturday, March 22nd, in a non-conference matchup between Carterville and Salem at Mt. Dew Park in Marion, IL.
CARTERVILLE LIONS
Parker Poole, RHP/OF, 2025, John A. Logan JC
Physical, well-proportioned frame that holds strength throughout and fills out the uniform. Started in right field and hit in the three-hole for the Lions. Finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, three runs scored, and a walk. Barreled a backside line drive down the right field line for an inside the park home run in his first at-bat, tripled to center field in his third trip to the plate. Easy hand strength with a long, flat path to contact, really looked the part running around the bases. Has also been up to 91 mph on the mound and is the ace of this Carterville staff.
Logan Ingle, INF/RHP, 2025, East Central CC
Lean frame with sloped shoulders and long limbs. Took the ball for the Lions in a start and hit in the two-hole. Struck out three and walked two over four innings of work, scattering two hits and allowing an unearned run. Arm plays with some length on the backside, finishing out of a high ¾ slot. Mostly showed a fastball in the low-80s, did flip in a breaking ball at times as a change of pace. Also singled three times, scored three times, and drove in two runs.
Aidan Swallers, OF, 2026, Uncommitted
Thin, wiry, high-waisted left/left athlete that led off and started in center field. Finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a walk. Old school, slap-type approach, throws his hands at the baseball and covers the plate. Entered in the game in relief and threw three perfect innings, striking out three.
Alex Lyell, 3B/RHP, 2026, Uncommitted
Strong, physical right-handed hitter that started at third base and hit cleanup for Carterville. Doubled and tripled in this look, both to left-center field, and drove in five runs. Loudest swing of the day was a loud lineout that carried straight to the left fielder. Strong hands with a long, level path to contact, ball jumps off the barrel with easy pull-side juice and carry.
Drake Capie, MIF, 2026, Uncommitted
Long, lean-limbed 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed hitter that started at second base and hit fifth for the Lions. Looks the part physically with plenty of room to continue to tack on strength to his frame. Had three hits and scored twice, driving in a run while also drawing a walk. Simple, compact, and direct left-handed stroke, works uphill to contact and favors the pull-side. Sure-handed defender at second base, was a part of a 6-4-3 double play in a key spot. An upside left-handed hitter to watch for the Lions.
Zach Snow, MIF/CF, 2027, Uncommitted
Lean, athletic multi-sport athlete that may have been the biggest winner of the day. Started at shortstop and hit in the six hole, moved to center field in the fifth inning. Loose hands, short and level path to contact, keeps his barrel through the hitting zone. Worked a deep count – consistently fouling off pitches – before spraying a single back up the middle for his lone hit of the day. Walked twice and scored two runs as well. Clean, athletic actions on the infield, soft hands with confidence in them. Arm plays from a ¾ slot, average arm strength at the moment but should continue to tick up as he adds strength. Made the move to center field seamlessly, flipped his hips and tracked down a deep fly ball at a pro park with no issue. An upside, athletic sophomore to follow for Carterville.
Haiden Lange, RHP/1B, 2028, Uncommitted
Lean, athletic, high-waisted frame with plenty of physical projection to come. Started at first base and hit seventh for the Lions as a freshman. Finished 3-for-5 with three RBI, including a double, a triple to deep right field, and a barreled single back up the middle of the field. High effort mover out of his load, stays flat to contact and uses his long levers to create jump off the barrel. Also a high-follow prospect on the mound; didn’t throw in this look, but has been low-to-mid-80s in previous looks with a fast arm and feel to spin a sharp slider. Should be a huge piece for the Lions on both sides of the ball over the next four years.
SALEM WILDCATS
Keytin Grawe, CF/SS, 2027, Uncommitted
Lean, athletic frame, hit leadoff for Salem and started in center field before moving to shortstop later in the game. Doubled to left-center in his second at-bat of the game, jumped on one his next trip to the plate for a loud barreled out that way as well. Fast hands with easy barrel speed, stays short and direct to contact, ball jumps off the barrel for his size. Easy athlete in center field, chance to stick there at the next level. A loose, fluid athlete on both sides of the ball with upside should he continue to add strength to his frame.
