With the IHSA season underway, the ScoutConnect scouting staff will be out and about in full force throughout the spring, providing quality coverage to high school athletes on a game-to-game basis. Aside from the social media aspect of our scouting, we’ll release our ‘Scout Notes’ the day after each game, which will provide a more detailed analysis of some players that stood out to our staff on that given day.
Continue reading below to learn more about a few names that stood out to our staff in a non-conference matchup between large school No. 7 Glenwood and small school No. 8 Routt Catholic, which the Rockets won 10-9 in walk-off fashion.
NO. 8 ROUTT CATHOLIC ROCKETS
Brock Runyon, RHP, 2025, Uncommitted
Athletic, square-shouldered frame with lean strength. Came out of the ‘pen and fired three strong innings in relief for the Rockets. Drop/drive type delivery, gets onto his backside early and stays on it to footstrike, lands with an open toe. Short, compact arm action, finishes out of an over-the-top slot. Fastball topped at 85 mph, pitching at 81-84 mph, jumped out of the hand from a tight window, especially down in the zone. Sold straight changeup and threw it at arm speed, kept it down at 70-71 mph. Showed a 65-68 mph curveball, developing feel. An athletic, uncommitted senior arm.
Jace Lautemann, OF, 2025, Uncommitted
Strong, compact frame with strength throughout. Started in right field and hit leadoff for Routt Catholic in this look. Scrappy, gamer-type that plays the game hard with a motor. Handsy, active swing, long left-handed swing that works slightly uphill through the zone. Sprayed a single to right-center field for his only hit of the day, drew a walk and scored twice. Advanced baserunner with instincts in that regard, swiped second and then delayed stole third when the pitcher/catcher weren’t paying attention. Another uncommitted senior that’s an impact player for Routt Catholic.
Brady Turner, LHP/1B, 2026, Uncommitted
Physical 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame that holds strength throughout. Started for the Rockets and threw three innings. Easy, low-effort delivery, short stride and lands closed to target. Short arm path that works out of a tight high ¾ window. Fastball touched 84 mph a few times in the first, pitching in the low-80s. Spun a sweeping breaking ball at 68-70 mph, turned over a changeup with depth at 76-77 mph that he threw at arm speed and showed as his best secondary in this look.
Talon Thompson, C, 2026, Uncommitted
Lean, athletic frame with long levers that are capable of continuing to add strength. Hit third and started behind the plate for Routt Catholic. Finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Put Routt Catholic on the board in the bottom of the first by spraying a two strike single back up the middle of the field. Followed that up by elevating a pitch deep into the left-center gap for an RBI double in his next at-bat. Long, slightly uphill path to contact, above-average runner that gets to peak speed quickly out of the box. Average hands behind the plate, arm played around the bag in between innings.
NO. 7 GLENWOOD TITANS
Daulton Nunes, INF, 2026, Uncommitted
Strong, compact frame, started in left field and hit cleanup for the Titans. Led the offense with three hits, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Put Glenwood on the board in the top of the first inning by sneaking a pitch just inside the left field foul line for a two-run hustle double. Went the other way for a single in his next at-bat, followed that up with an infield single to shortstop and a hit by pitch. Quiet and balanced at the plate with a simple hand load, doesn’t do too much and works direct to contact.
Grady Mueller, OF, 2026, Uncommitted
6-foot, 180-pound frame with strength throughout, football background. Hit out of the two-hole and started in center field for Glenwood. Had two hits, both singles. Sprayed a single that dropped a few feet in front of the right fielder in his first at-bat. Went down and got a lower-half pitch and barreled it over the shortstop to left-center field for a single in his third trip to the plate.
Dylan Huff, RHP/OF, 2026, Uncommitted
Long, lanky, lean-levered athlete with plenty to project on physically. Known for his efforts on the mound, as one of the state’s top uncommitted junior arms, but showed well with the bat in this look. Finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a walk, and an RBI out of the three-hole for Glenwood, starting at first base. Athlete at the plate with loose hands and a short, level path through the zone that creates backspin off the barrel. Sent a line drive home run straight over the center field wall to kick off a five run top of the seventh inning for Glenwood.
