With the IHSA season underway, the ScoutConnect scouting staff will be out and about in full force throughout the spring, providing quality coverage to high school athletes on a game-to-game basis. Aside from the social media aspect of our scouting, we’ll release our ‘Scout Notes’ the day after each game, which will provide a more detailed analysis of some players that stood out to our staff on that given day.
Continue reading below to learn more about a few names that stood out to our staff in a Mississippi Valley Conference matchup between No. 1 Triad and No. 3 Mascoutah, which the Knights won 1-0.
NO. 1 TRIAD KNIGHTS
Hayden Bernreuter, OF/LHP, 2025, John A. Logan JC commit
Physical frame with strength throughout. Hit out of the two-hole and started on the mound for the Knights. Carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, with the only hit being a dribbler up the left field line that traveled 15 or so feet, and struck out 11 over 6 ⅔ innings of work, two walks, 63% strikes. Stretch-only, drop/drive type delivery, lands with a slightly closed front toe and finishes towards the third base side. Short, compact arm stroke that finishes out of a high ¾ slot. Fastball touched 91 in the first, held 88-90 mph in a 103 pitch outing, touching a handful of 89s and 90s in the sixth and seventh inning. Showed confidence in a tight slider with sweep at 77-81 mph, was able to land it in the zone for strikes and get swing-and-miss as well. Also drove in the game’s only run on a flared single to left field. One of the area’s top two-way talents that continues to produce at a high rate for the top-ranked Knights.
Hayden Bugger, INF, 2025, Kaskaskia JC commit
Athletic frame with lean strength and room for more, square shoulders. Hit out of the three-hole for Triad and started at shortstop. Was a key contributor for the Knights in a close win. Doubled down the left field line in his second at-bat of the game. Hit a hard ground ball to second base his next time up to move a runner over to third base his next time up. Short, compact, and direct right-handed swing, doesn’t try to do too much with minimal swing-and-miss. Sure-handed actions on the infield with a short, quick release across.
NO. 3 MASCOUTAH INDIANS
Austin Musso, RHP, 2025, Arizona State commit
Strong, sturdy, starter’s frame that holds strength throughout. Broad shoulders, filled out lower half. Was excellent for the Indians in this look, struck out eight over six innings with a run on three hits. Athletic, high-intent mover that works with effort through release but stays in control. Consistently repeats, maintains his direction to the plate. Clean, continuous arm path that finishes out of a loose high ¾ slot. Fastball touched 94 mph once in the first, sat 91-93 mph early before settling at 88-91 mph. Played with true four-seam backspin, challenged hitters in the zone often. Drops arm slot slightly on slider at 78-81 mph, holds fastball plane with tight spin and late break. Showed a changeup sparingly to left-handed hitters at 82-84 mph. One of the area’s top arms with a track record of high-end in-game performance.
Parker Henry, RHP, 2025, Uncommitted
Long, athletic levers with room to continue to add strength. Came out of the ‘pen in the seventh inning for the Indians and retired the side on seven pitches, five of them strikes. Throws across his body with effort, long arm action with a ¾ finish. Fastball sat 82-84 mph and showed feel for a 75-76 mph slider with depth. An uncommitted senior arm to know for Mascoutah.
